Tonsil stones, otherwise known as tonsilloliths, are little outgrowths in the back of the mouth which are often the cause of bad breath. These stones are formed due to the collection of various materials such as mucous, bacteria or dead white blood cells. Over time, as these materials accumulate in the crevasses of the tonsils which are located at the rear of the mouth, tonsil stones are formed. Tonsil stones are not harmful but they are definitely a cause of nuisance while lodged in the back of the throat, will cause you to have bad breath.

Getting Rid Of Tonsil Stones – My Story

As a victim of tonsil stones myself 3 months ago, I understand exactly what you are going through. My conversations with friends were cut short and abruptly and I was left wondering whether I did something to offend them. This continued to happen until a close friend of mine told me that I have had bad breath for quite some time, but he didn’t want to hurt me so he kept it to himself till I confided my feelings in him. At first I thought that the cause must’ve been my diet but I began to notice that there’s often something stuck at the back of my mouth and if I manage to dislodge it, it would stink like nobody’s business.

Initially, I attributed this to undigested food particles that get stuck or somehow manage to find its way back up my throat until I went to a doctor and was informed that I had tonsil stones. What stones? I asked. That was my first time ever hearing it. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and told me to take it for a few weeks, which I did, but to no avail. When I returned to the doctor, he told me that the only other way was to have surgery to have my tonsils removed. I was shocked beyond words. I’ve never had surgery before and having someone stick a knife down my throat to cut off my tonsils scared the hell out of me. I didn’t want to do surgery but neither did I want to be plagued by foul breath for the rest of my life. I was desperate. I searched high and low for alternatives.

Getting Rid of Tonsil Stones – 2 Simple Methods

After researching online for about a week, I came across several simple methods to get rid of tonsil stones. The first method is to gargle salt water every morning upon waking up and every night before you go to bed. You’ll need to do this daily to prevent them from coming back. It’s troublesome but it works.

The second method is slightly harder, as it requires you sticking a cotton bud to your affected tonsil area and pushing the tonsil stones gently out of the crevasses. Use a mirror and shine a flashlight into your mouth for this. Many will have trouble doing this as the gag reflex might kick in and well.. things might get messy. Never do this right after you have had a meal!

Personally, I did the first method for a couple of weeks and all was good till I got kinda sick of having to gargle salt water twice every single day. I realized these two methods are merely temporary and will require you to do these on a daily or repetitive basis. What I needed was a real and permanent tonsil stones treatment.
